You do have a way with words.

Look, whether what my son becomes is an according-to-Hoyle “male” is beside the point. The point is that he wants to change something about himself. If it were a new hairstyle, this would be easy, and I wouldn’t have written about it (which means I wouldn’t have met such out-of-the-box thinkers as yourself).

I can accept the change, or I can fight it. Fighting it will accomplish nothing. Accepting it might accomplish a lot. I won’t know until I complete that acceptance, which is a work in progress — that was the point of my essay. I admit I struggle with the acceptance. What I’m not doing is doubling down on provincialism.

And I’m not calling people mutants.
