An Update on My Sugar Daddy Friend

He still isn’t re-married. Should he be?

Remember my friend John?

I wrote about him not long after I joined Medium. He is a sugar daddy who at the time had slept with 60 women and dated dozens more, paying close to $15,000 for the privilege.

That was 22 months ago. Last year, he achieved legendary status, waking up beside his 100th lover.

From 60 to 100. A 66.7% increase. In one year.

Imagine if that were an investment portfolio.

I have known John since 1990, when he walked into my eleventh grade Spanish class and took the seat next to me. He is my best friend. We’ve seen each other through five wives, several career changes, and more ups and downs than an EKG. I love him more than a brother.

In 2015, his second wife, Sarah, left him for a former boyfriend, an act that neutered him as cleanly as any knife. After struggling with traditional dating, he met his first sugar baby on August 1, 2016. He fell in love with the process, admiring its consumerism, its Pleasure Island sensibilities. Things have been full-cream-ahead ever since.

Until now.

Since the quarantines began, John has heard from a lot of his old sugar babies. Many have lost their jobs and need…
